SMALL HOMES

Happy new year! What a great new year it has been already! my life has been a bit overwhelming, hence the reason i have not blogged lately. So many new things have sprouted, and Im still wrapping my head around it. I am super excited with so many things, esp. the thought of building our own home. A small home. Phil has been wanting to build a home for us himself, and it wasnt till recently, that things seem to be heading that way! The idea is to build small, but functional, and come up with a layout that you can continually build onto the home, as we expand our growing family. We also like the idea of having saved up money to go towards this. Another idea about this setup, is that we will never have a mortgage in our life! That is freedom in itself! We want it small, but wide open, with lofts to sleep, and small but functional kitchen and bathroom. I believe this will encourage more outdoor living ( not that we need and encouragement, esp. out on the wide open farm), and will keep our family relationships close. I dont want much storage space ( as i dont want to have things to store, unless they are much needed), i really want to focus more on what i need, rather than just having things. ( i have already started this process) Our home will not be fancy, but it will be well built, and even more importantly, it will be built by my husband, and father. that means so much to us! We will be house proud. We wont owe anyone, our bill will be small, and I wont spend most of my time picking up the house, as i will mainly have things i need. *side note* we have talked about a small basement, or cellar for food storage. This is extremely important to me. * i'd also like a wonderful area in the front of my house for privacy. I want it covered in plants and trees, so people from the road can't be too nosy! ha * i'd also like cement floors, a metal roof, and a skylight or two. the ideas are endless! -m

I love this idea. I've read about others who've done this and it's so inspiring. I'm going through the process of decluttering right now {seems I'm continually doing this and I'm still not where I want to be} and having less is VERY appealing. I'll be excited to read about your journey. :)
